These are both spot on. I liked how the percussion kicked in at about 3 minutes into the first one.
Shifting gears, I love Pablo Neruda's "Love Sonnet XVII," although I should probably put it in "What are you reading?"
No te amo como si fueras rosa de sal, topacio
o flecha de claveles que propagan el fuego:
te amo como se aman ciertas cosas oscuras,
secretamente, entre la sombra y el alma.
I do not love you as though you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.

Literally anything from the album Realms by Holy Fawn feels endemic to Eli's experience. From the androgynous vocals to the themes of visualization of the self as a feral force of nature, themes of tragic love, wintery imagery, a sound that reminds me of bands like Of Monsters and Men.
"I want to fill my lungs with the smell of damp bark and your name
The taste of your avalanche and the cold winter tongue on my cheek
Is it that you stand so tall?
Bloodletting feral ritual, I painted in the snow a stave to guide you home
Can you see?" -Colossus
"Careful letting go, the silver fog that claws
Cursed undertow, come on, steal my flesh and bones
Crush me under storms
I know, I know, I'm so cold" -Foal

The song Famine Wolf by the progressive metal band Between the Buried and Me. Felt like they were written about Eli.
Grind down.
Blind taste.
Dripping ideas turn against our will.
Swallow the chosen soul.
One Animal.
Once lived... for life.
Human mist rise.
Sweet devouring teeth are sharpened.
Swallow the chosen soul.
The fifth resonating host... sweaty palmed inside constant alert.
Blinking around the bubble of the paranoid.
We are all that's left. We will be enough?
Scour the earth. Turn the dirt red.
(This can't be our lifeline)
Anchored mind wind... across the fog.
We disgrace the pupils sight.
A homeless meat... the street markets replaced their souls.
Gipping our oldest thoughts... society has me out cold.
It has me out in the cold.
Move the flesh over this rotten bone.
One more day.
This can't be our lifeline...

It's funny to go searching the forum and come across this, Holy Fawn is one of my favorite new bands I've recently discovered.Serendipitous wrote: ↑Thu Mar 17, 2022 6:22 pmLiterally anything from the album Realms by Holy Fawn feels endemic to Eli's experience. Oh boy, music and LTROI together....
There are many that have been repeated by others; lovesong (and maybe half of The Cure's discography), and many others I agree with. For my own taste, Break my fall by Breaking Benjamin feels pretty tailor made:
Help me break my conscience in
To free us from our innocence
I am losing you again
Let me out and let me in
'Cause you're not alone here
Not at all
Let me belong here
Break my fall
Maybe my contribution can be newer music; even stuff popular in 2010 when this thread was created seems ages ago to me (I was 7 in 2010!). Loathe has been making overall great heavy-shoegaze type songs for some time, but Is it really you and two way mirror seem close:
Let's search the sky for a while
You and I
Collide like two stars for a while
You and I
Crushed by silent snow
Not the first I know
Moodring also makes great shoegazy type stuff, like SYNC.wav, and show me the real you. The former even gets a little body horror in the style of LTROI.
Let's sink into each other for a while
Not far from hell, but heaven's just inside
You crawl across the sheets, I'm weak
Let's sink into each other thinking
Where do I begin and where's your body end?
When we both work as one, synced up
Room for no division, feel our bodies melt
And we know we are one
Forever synced up
Shoegaze and atmospheric styles of metal work really well in general I think. These are all new(ish) bands, so I hope I help introduce some people to more metal!

Re: Songs that make you think of Oskar & Eli
I listen to songs just for the music. I never give any attention to lyrics. I completely ignore them. So I'm at a disadvantage here. But it so happens that one is fitting the theme somehow.

I have to say - it's really hard to miss the lyrics on this one.

"Secrets" by Ellen Krauss. Could work from both of their perspectives, maybe.
I need your lovin' moment
I need the truth for a minute
Tell me the secrets you keep
When I'm not awake, when I'm not awake
Make me a movie now, paint me a dream
Train ride to Paris, night by the sea
Open a window, let me in
Some things are broken, some things begin
De höll om varandra i tystnad. Oskar blundade och visste: detta var det största. Ljuset från lyktan i portvalvet trängde svagt in genom hans slutna ögonlock, la en hinna av rött för hans ögon. Det största.
